Community membership type change
Hey all, I've just noticed a surge of spambots joining low-traffic LJ communities and posting ads there--so I've changed uptownoncalhoun
to moderated membership, which means all new members must be approved by a community maintainer. After this change we can still get comment-level spam, but no entry spam. :-)
Speaking of community maintainers, I'm currently the only maintainer on this community. If anyone else wants to be added as a maintainer, let me know.

Cotswald time! Also, best photo ever?
I think this may be the best photo ever taken of our team while dancing. Naturally, it was taken by someone not of the morris community. Posted to my journal, placed here to share with everyone else. (c)Dave E. Romm, so don't swipe it. He's good people. http://www.romm.org/mayday06/88.htmlIt's Cotswald time!
The new season has begun, and we are practicing dances for spring and summer repertoire. We meet at Linden Hills Park these days, please check www.uptownoncalhoun.org for details.
Repertoire plan is: ( Per the foremanCollapse ) Current Mood: cheerful

Uptown IN Calhoun!!
Saturday July 22, 2006, at 4 p.m. morris standard time, we will gather at the intersection of Lake Calhoun Parkway and Upton Avenue South. Bring your hankies, a towel, and some clothes you don't mind getting totally soaked. We usually dance a few at whichever corner has good grass and enough audience. After that, we will travel via Uptown Processional to the shore of Lake Calhoun, and thence INTO the lake, there to dance until we run out of repertoire or energy. Groupies and photographers are welcome, of course. Lapsed dancers are entirely welcome. Lap dancers too, for that matter...
Members of U-on-C and Itasca R&M, and appropriate friends, are welcome at the potluck & sing. Details have already been sent via the email list.
Foot up! Current Mood: excited

Cotswold season has officially begun!
As of Feb 2nd, we're working on our spring/summer/early autumn stuff. It was well begun, too! Our eternally patient Lucifore has picked a very nice set of dances (IMO). He's also prepared for beginners as well as older bum-knees. We had quite a decent turnout for practice, which I hope is a taste of things to come.
Please come to practice, with energy! Please bring curious friends who may wish to join us!

I've had the music for "Princess Royal" stuck in my head all afternoon. It took me a little bit to identify it, but the "bmm bmm bmm" where the feet cross gave it away.

I found something to post to the community! This is not a formal question being asked of the group (if it were, I would send it to the email list of course) but rather a question being asked of morris-dancing friends.
What are your thoughts on someone dressing as a Border morris dancer for Halloween? That someone being me. I have mixed feelings, as follows:
The side of me that wants to do it (hereafter PM) says "Yeah! The thought of dressing as a morris dancer makes me happy."
The side of me that isn't so sure (hereafter AM) says "I dunno. Isn't that disrespectful somehow, to make morris dancing into a costume?"
PM replies "But I've dressed as a witch for Halloween countless times, and I'm a witch, and there was no problem there."
AM replies "Don't know what to say to that. Let's ask someone else."
So, what do y'all think? I think probably the reason I like the idea so much is that miss dancing. Could be fun, though! I like the idea of getting to be all wild and Border-y at work, too.

Tannahill Weavers at the Cedar
I'm planning to go to the Tannahill Weavers concert at the Cedar Cultural Center. Anyone else coming?
It is Sunday, Sept. 18th at 7:30.

I miss you all. The phone number I had for Kingsesington Morris was disconnected. I may have to go to DC for morris.

We will be at our "home" space, Lake Hiawatha Park, beginning 9/29.
On alternating Thursdays, we will have a new practice space at Morris Park (how delightfully apt!), beginning 9/22.
Edit after gettin' skooled by Waterdusk!
From the U-on-C website:
Thursday 8 NO PRACTICE - break
Thursday 15 Team meeting at Don's house
Thursday 22 Border Season Starts at Morris Recreation Center - 7:15-9 pm run repertoire
Thursday 29 Practice - Lake Hiawatha Community Center 7:15-9 pm - 1st teaching
This will be the beginning of border Morris season. It's a very fine time to start learning Morris if you've always wanted to do that! Great time of year to bring guests, naturally.
This post is a reminder for U-on-C folks on LJ, but it's also an open invitation for anyone who reads our f-lists. Or perhaps it's a dare...

The userpics are off the team website. Let me know if anybody minds. (I made sure the only photo I used with people in it is too small to make out anyone's face.)
Welcome to the community! I figured that with springiswrath
moving away, various former members being in other states, and me having class on practice nights, maybe a community would be a good idea. Since half of us have LJ accounts anyway.
